Kouts located in Pleasant Township.  Bernhardt Kautz moved here from Pennsylvania, before the arrival of the railroads, and established a farm where the town now sits. With the arrival of the Chicago and St. Louis Railroad in 1865, Kautz and his brother-in-law H.A. Wright laid out the town and established a store.  Known as Kouts Station, the town grew slowly until the Chicago and Erie Railroad intersected the line in Kouts.  Kouts became the social and economic center of the township.
Official records show that the town was originally named Kouts Station in 1867, then changed to Kout in 1882 and finally Kouts in 1890.

Incorporated in 1921, when electricity first came into town.

This town has many special events year round.  Memorial Day Parage, Annual Kouts Porkfest and a Town Wide Garage Sale to name just a few.
